Meet our newest PenPal Star: Connor from Iowa! He recently collaborated with students in A World of Food to learn about different delicious foods from around the world. In this project based learning example, Connor created a cookbook with recipes around the world and used descriptive writing to share his favorite restaurants from his hometown: Breakfast: An amazing breakfast place that is only local is “The Rock and Anchor Grille” They don't have their own dish but they have a dish that's amazing. Their pancakes. The small pancakes are as big as the plate, When I ate mine I could not finish it. I had leftovers. It is popular because of the good food. Lunch: “Marco’s Pizza” is More than a normal pizza joint. They have really amazing pizza that is only local. The pizza is fatter and there is more pizza on it. You don't only have to get pizza either, you could also get salad. It is very popular because it is very good. Dinner: My Nana makes the best Chilly. It always taste good and I always get a second bowl of it. She goes through hard work for the chilly that she makes. Every dish she makes, she works hard on. It’s very popular in our home because it is amazing. Connor was excited to be featured this week as a PenPal Star. His work stands out because of his strong, descriptive writing. Descriptive writing is when authors describe a person, place, or thing in a way that creates images in their readers’ minds. By using language like “the small pancakes are as big as the plate,” Connor is able to paint a picture in our minds of what the food looks like!
