The PenPal Schools team is excited to announce the addition of four new documentary films and companion lessons to one of our most popular PenPal Schools topics: The World Through My Eyes.
Have you joined PenPal-A-Palooza yet? Each day, thousands of students are making global connections and exploring different topics. Project based learning with PenPal Schools makes it fun for students and teachers to develop reading, writing, social and emotional learning (SEL), and digital citizenship skills!
PenPal-A-Palooza ends February 28, and each week we are going to recognize 4 all-star students that demonstrate excellence in reading, writing, social & emotional skills, and digital citizenship! Here’s a sneak peak of what we’re looking for in our PenPal-A-Palooza All-Stars and how to support your students so they can win an award: Students love to read the comments that their PenPals leave on their writing, but we know that students need support to leave critical, relevant, and helpful feedback. It’s time to take student writing to the next level with new peer assessment & badging! Now, students have the opportunity to give and receive specific feedback from dozens of peers around the world. The new peer assessment reviews are designed to help students improve their writing. Instead of simply upvoting a great response, now students can analyze why the response is great by giving reviews like Inspiring, Uses Facts, and Super Spelling. Students also earn badges based on the number of reviews they receive! See how peer assessment can improve your students’ writing by enrolling in a PenPal Schools topic. Happy PenPal-ing!
Over 2,000 students from around the world participated in the Global School Pride Contest, sharing what makes their school special in the PenPal Schools project Schools Around the World. We’re excited to announce the winners from this contest: Iris, Ava, Lauren, and Catherine from Trinity Preparatory School in Florida, USA!
Researchers and scientists think that when people show gratitude, they make themselves and those around them feel even happier. What are your students thankful for? In November's special PenPal contest, we invite students from around the world to discuss and share their gratitude through photography!
Our team has been working around the clock and we are excited to introduce the new and improved PenPal Schools student experience!
We made the student experience easier to navigate on desktop and mobile devices. To better support students across ages and abilities, our new experience eliminates distractions so students can focus on creating projects and collaborating with PenPals. This week, students across the United States are participating in Media Literacy Week, but it’s not just students in the U.S. who are discussing media literacy! Fake news affects communities around the world, which is why students have been connecting with their peers globally in Facts, Opinions, and Fake News. Over 1,000 students are participating in this project right now!
There are more than 4,000 different religions and religious groups around the world. In our newest project, World Religions, your students can connect with their peers to learn and gain global perspectives about how religions influence individuals and communities. In this collaborative project, students connect globally to discuss religions around the world, compare the different elements of religion, and explore the history of religion and its influence on society. Then, students will create their own project to publish in the PenPal Schools Showcase! Happy PenPal-ing!
Over 1,700 students are currently participating in the Global School Pride Contest! Have your students joined? There’s still time to participate and enter to win great prizes! Students can show off their school pride by creating a Showcase project that demonstrates what makes their school special. Students have been creating posters, taking photos of their campus, interviewing their favorite teachers, and showing off their schools in other creative ways! Sign up for Schools Around the World to get started. Five students will be selected to win prizes, like a VR headset! Make sure that your students publish their Showcase project by October 31 to be eligible. Get inspired by these PenPals from Illinois!
Happy PenPal-ing! |
